Manuel João Monte
Manuel João Monte was Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, where he taught since 1980. Retired in August 2019, he is currently a Guest Associate Professor and coordinator of the Molecular and Supramolecular Thermodynamics research group of the Chemistry Research Centre at UP (CIQUP), having published over 100 scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the journals Molecules (MDPI) and The Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics (Elsevier). He translated into Portuguese the “Ciência-no-Teatro” plays “Oxigénio”, by Carl Djerassi and Roald Hoffmann, and “Falácia”, by Carl Djerassi, published by U.Porto Press. In 2019, he wrote the play “O Bairro da Tabela Periódica”, published by U.Porto Press (“Fora de Série” collection, no. 1). As author of this work of scientific dissemination, he was awarded, in 2021, the José Mariano Gago prize of the Portuguese Society of Authors. In 2020, he wrote the play “Arsenicum”, also published by U.Porto Press (Fora de Série collection, no. 4).
