"Banned Books during the Estado Novo" exhibition
The General Library of the University of Coimbra has created a travelling exhibition on books and authors censored during the Estado Novo, as part of the official programming for the 50th anniversary of the 25 April Revolution.
Five sets of books facsimilated by the publisher A Bela e o Monstro will be travelling around school libraries in boxes designed by Atelier do Corvo. Using a QR Code, you can access information about the censorship process of the respective work, as well as listen to the banning order and/or an extract from the text. The 25 texts are spoken by actors and actresses from Coimbra, including ours Carolina Andrade (“Histórias de amor: quatro contos e uma novela”, by José Cardoso Pires) and Mário Montenegro (“Quando os lobos uivar”, by Aquilino Ribeiro, and “Branca de Neve e os 700 anões”, by José Vilhena).
You can browse all the books and extracts available at this link.
