Marionet participates in the cultural programme of the "International Colloquium Epistemologies of the South"
Marionet presented on 11 July, at Coimbra’s downtown, a performance included in the cultural programme of the International Colloquium Epistemologies of the South, under project Alice of the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra.
This presentation was part of the ‘Performance Tour of the City’ which took place between Visconde da Luz st. and Largo da Portagem, in Coimbra, starting at 7pm.
Considering the themes addressed by the colloquium, we proposed the representation of a moment when two cultures meet, through one of the fundamental works of Portuguese literature.
We adapted some parts of “The Lusiads”, from Luís Vaz de Camões, where he tells the arrival of the Portuguese army at Calecut, and the meeting between the Portuguese captain, Vasco da Gama, and the indian Samorim, lord of that region, with the interference of Bacchus who, serving as translator, tries to smuggle intrigue between the other two.
We had already worked upon “The Lusiads” in a previous play, “The Lusiads at the Zoo”, where the audience was invited to travel through this work to India, along the scientific collections of the Museum of Zoology of the University of Coimbra.
You can see some excerpts of our performance in the following video, produced by Project Alice, which gathers some moments of the ‘Tour of the city’.
