Coimbra City Council is promoting the first edition of Cu.Co. Coimbra Cultural Journalism Meeting, an initiative that will mark the city’s cultural agenda from 3 to 7 September. The programme of the event proposes a collective reflection on the role of cultural journalism today, inviting a panel of renowned experts from national and international media outlets to take part in the debate, in close dialogue with the dynamics of the city’s cultural and artistic ecosystem.
At a time when there is intense debate about the role of journalism in the defence of democratic societies, it is also important to think about and debate the more specific role of cultural journalism in this same context. Cu.Co thus arose with two fundamental purposes: to be a laboratory for discussing and thinking about the different issues surrounding cultural journalism today — its urgency, its framework, its relevance in the age of social networks, its funding — but also to establish a platform for communicating the different cultural dynamics that exist in the city of Coimbra, both indoors and outdoors.
It was in this context that Marionet hosted one of the event’s round tables, entitled ‘Theatrical Creation in Coimbra – Departure and Arrival Zones’, which discussed the practices of some of the theatre companies based in our city, as well as their relationship with their audiences and the media.

Through a series of round tables, talks, meetings with partners and the public, Cu.Co aims to encourage discussion, critical thinking and a better understanding of Coimbra’s cultural reality. Alongside the invited national and international journalists, Cu.Co also counts on the involvement of Coimbra’s journalistic community, the city’s cultural agents, those responsible for the programming and management of the various cultural facilities and journalism students.
