SYNOPSIS

Theatre and science go hand in hand, from Antiquity to Molière’s masterful plays. But in practice, how can science and theatre come together on stage? This work demonstrates the specific nature of the scenic exploration of the worlds of science while making research questions accessible to all sorts of audiences.

Through various experiences, from Laos to Avignon, this polyphonic book gives voice to the women and men of the stage, as well as several scholars around a plural vision of scientific theatre. Let’s allow ourselves to be guided through the discovery of these surprising ways of creative synergy between scientists and theatre professionals.

Michel Letté

Michel Letté Contemporary history professor at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (CNAM) in Paris, Michel Letté is responsible for professional training in science and technology mediation through cultural design. In this context, he has conceived, produced, and animated several mediation devices, including those that mobilize the theatrical scene (collective creation, science friction scenes, performance investigation). His current research focuses mainly on the history of socio-technical controversies as an informal mediation device for relations between sciences, technosciences, and society.

Frédéric Tournier

A biologist by training, Fréderic Tournier led a research team in cell biology between 1994 and 2005, having obtained authorization to conduct research (HDR) in 2002. In 2008, he joined the ‘Science and Media’ team at Paris-Diderot University (now Paris-Cité University) and successively carried out various university missions: he was project manager for high school relations, delegate, and then vice-president in charge of Student Life between 2010 and 2013. He began training as an actor in 2002 and performed in roughly ten plays between 2003 and 2019. For the last fifteen years, he has been running the introductory workshop on scientific controversies for the master’s programme in ‘Audiovisual, Scientific Journalism and Communication’, for which he is also responsible. He is currently conducting cross-cutting research in scientific theatre and the history of French maritime research stations.
