Steve Gunn's European tour passes through Coimbra this Wednesday
One of the names to look out for in the North American new blues scene, with a strong connection to psychedelic folk, Steve Gunn returns to Portugal in October and will be in Coimbra just over a year after his first visit.
Creator of beautiful songs of a deeply experimental nature, based on improvised composition, this songwriter and performer has been responsible for a remarkable creative proficiency in recent years, reflected in the considerable number of records he has released since 2007. These include some albums that haven’t gone unnoticed by specialised critics, such as “Sundowner” (2008) or “Boerum Palace” (2009), as well as various collaborations with other artists, captured in split format, such as Sun City Girls or Pete Nolan, with whom he has already collaborated via the Spectre Folk and Magik Markers projects.
The free form that his musical production takes on is closely linked to the “do it yourself” spirit that Steve Gunn demonstrates, not only from an artistic point of view, but also in the way he hasn’t shied away from self-editing his work, which has already been released on CD, cassette or free digital format.
On stage, Steve Gunn deliberately seeks to reinvent his themes and doesn’t shy away from offering us moments of spontaneous or conditioned improvisation, which makes each of his shows unique and special.
The show is scheduled to take place at the Bissaya Barreto Foundation’s Casa das Artes on 10 October at 10pm (doors open 30 minutes earlier). Tickets start at €3.
