On the way to the premiere of the show “Oxímoro, entre Solstícios e Equinócios” (Oxymoron, between Solstices and Equinoxes), Marionet is hosting the exhibition “Ponto de Fuga” (Vantage Point), a collection of works produced by users of the Psychiatry Unit of the Hospital and University Centre of Coimbra – Sobral Cid Unit.
At the Sobral Cid Hospital’s House of Arts, in the left wing of Pavilion 9 (P9), they have been drawing freely since November 2022. “Vanishing Point” is a sample of the creative result of this journey.
In the Sala dos Azulejos (Tiles Room), people draw with coloured pencils or graphite, with or without vanishing points on the paper, but making the mind escape from the experience of mental illness, in the daily life of an inpatient unit or outside hospital walls. The images come from a spontaneous, intimate and emotional place, fertile with possibilities for human empowerment.
In the visual arts, a vanishing point can be defined as a reference point on the horizon. Nothing more and nothing less than one of the meanings attributed to the P9 House of Arts by the artists who use it.
