Library rats are a different species now. They say they no longer care about books, that they gnaw from the outside in. Among the stories of the readers, the archives, the bookshelves, the floorboards, we find ghosts, naked men, relatives we have never met, places we have crystallised, hidden interests.
A show about a library is a good pretext to question the way in which the society we live in relates to spaces and thinks about public services. Can we guarantee that everyone has free access to all the books they want or need to read?
This show was originally created to be performed at the Municipal Library of Coimbra, in celebration of its 100th anniversary. We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library for their friendliness and availability in supporting the production in the city of Portimão.
