A new map for thinking about the relationship between performance and science.

The Documentation Centre on the Performing Arts and the Science of Marionet has just received “The Routledge Companion to Performance and Science”, a key reference work bringing together more than fifty researchers, artists and professionals dedicated to the multifaceted relationships between theatre, performance and science.

 

Edited by Paul Johnson, Simon Parry and Adele Senior, the volume explores themes such as science communication, the health sciences, science and technology studies, and contemporary performative practices, offering a comprehensive overview of a constantly evolving field.

 

Among the authors is Mário Montenegro, artistic director of Marionet, with the chapter “Dramatic Representations of the Astrologer on the Verge of Modern Science”, dedicated to dramatic representations of the figure of the astrologer during a period of transition between different forms of knowledge.

 

More than just a new acquisition, this book serves to strengthen a Documentation Centre on that continues to grow and establish itself as a meeting point between the performing arts and science.
