Always with an eye on the light, the stage is simultaneous a theatre and a scientific lab, where the creation of dramatic elements intersects with the research on a visual handicap known as cerebral achromatopsia.
There are people involved. Therefore, there’s love, hate, envy, faith, pleasure, injustice, revenge, curiosity, interest, despite, subservience, prepotency, laughs, fear, joy and, above all, lots of light.

A closed book contains potential energy, the power to produce transformation. The first step into that possible intervention of reality involves opening it. And, secondly, the book needs light to be activated.
In 2015, the International Year of Light, we created two theatre plays with the light theme: Luz de Perdição (Light of Perdition), premiered on the 25th of September, in partnership with the Science Museum and a group of researchers from the University of Coimbra; and LUZ (Light), a co-production with Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente, premiered in its stage on the 23rd of November 2015.
These two plays match two parallel paths that Marionet is crossing since 2009: taking the theatre to science, working with scientific researchers communities, the science social environment and other scientific themes; and bringing the science to theatre, working on scientific themes with art professionals. These two paths intersect now, for the first time, in “Light_Book”, gathering on stage professional actors and scientific researchers, and also a set of scripts written by both.
“Light_Book” proceeds the artistic exploration work around light developed in those two productions. It keeps the reflection on the theatrical and scientific activities, the theatre and laboratorial spaces, the theatre audience and the science social environment, adding a new variant, the presence of the light in the universal literature.
