Texto dramático de tema científico: o caso particular de Carl Djerassi
Mário Montenegro
This work investigates the close relation between science and theatre, characterizes the world context regarding theatre plays with scientific content, draws a historical line for this subgenre of drama and, simultaneously, traces characteristics which will allow an indexation of this kind of plays. In addition, it studies the dramatic work of Carl Djerassi within this context, considering his definition of “science-in-theatre” and analysing in some detail his play Calculus. Considering the thematic and dramaturgic characteristics of this play, which as been translated into Portuguese language during the course of this work, it fits in the strict “science-in-theatre” definition as well in a broader group of “science-content plays”, from which we present some specimens with its first examples situated in the Ancient Greece, in the same place and close in time from the moment when Science first began.
