Reading Theatre with Science: way beyond fish

Yesterday we returned to the Carlos Fiolhais Library – for the 32nd session of ‘Reading Theatre with Science’, where we read “Yellowfin” by the british playwright Marek Horn. The play imagines a world in which, overnight, all the fish disappear, bringing science, politics, ecology and human responsibility into conflict.

As we read, we quickly realised that the text took us far beyond the subject of fish. The discussion touched on our relationship with other animals, the way we exploit natural resources, greed, and the world we are building for future generations.

This is precisely what interests us so much about theatre: the ability of a text to open up different interpretations and to mean different things to each person. Starting from the same story, questions, concerns and unique interpretations arise, making each gathering different from the last.
