Between the 24th and 25th meetings for Reading Theatre with Science, we’re holding an extra session at Marionet on 15 May at 4:30pm. Unlike usual, this reading won’t be public and will only be attended by students from the degree course in Artistic Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra (Portuguese Theatre course, under the responsibility of Professor Carlos Costa – Visões Úteis).
The theatre play to be read is ‘Rutherford‘, by New Zealand playwright, radio presenter and novelist Stuart Hoar, translated to Portuguese as part of the Collaborative Translation Project, a team for which we are always recruiting more people. As always, the original text, as well as the aforementioned translation, are available for consultation or loan at the Performing Arts and Science Documentation Centre. Anyone interested in taking part, either by reading or just watching, simply has to sign up via the following email address: ler@marioneteatro.com
SYNOPSIS
I have broken the machine and touched the ghost of matter. Scientific obsession meets personal cost, as the play looks deeply into the matter of Rutherford himself and his relationships with his wife, daughter, friend and colleague. An examination of the rich life and work of Sir Ernest Rutherford.
