Reading Theatre With Science | Public Reading of Nick Payne's "Constellations"

The Reading Theatre with Science project, scheduled to start in 2020 — but which was postponed to 2021 due to the constraints of the covid-19 pandemic — aims to creating knowledge of science-themed drama, through public sessions of shared reading of contemporary plays. Having had its start delayed by the limitations of the COVID pandemic, Marionet is finally delighted to announce the first session of the Reading Theatre with Science initiative.

 

A difficulty that had to be solved was the inexistence of Portuguese translations of the most recent drama dealing with scientific issues. Notably those already in our Documentation Centre for Performing Arts and Science (DCPAS). With that in mind, and taking advantage of the forced interruption of our Reading Theatre with Science initiative, the Collaborative Translation Project (CTP) began in June 2020, with the goal of translating these plays into Portuguese in a timely manner. We then started to work on the first of these plays – Nick Payne’s “Constellations“, collaboratively translated by a group of volunteers for this first informal public reading.

 

This is the book to be read at the first session that will take place in Parque Verde (next to the first cube after the Pedro e Inês bridge) in Coimbra, on 26 May, starting at 6 pm (should the weather require it, the reading will take place in the Marionet space, at Rua Carlos Seixas, 277).

 

For organizational purposes, please register in advance (through the email ler@marioneteatro.com), but the event is open, and participation as a reader is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended.
